When it comes to talented photographers who “get it” with social media, Kris Krüg‘s name is often near the top of that list. Kris will be speaking at WebVisions in Portland on May 19th and presenting a three hour workshop titled “Photography Tips from the New School.” In addition to the morning workshop, there will be an afternoon photowalk around Portland. What will he be speaking about?

Kris will discuss creating your own style through photo manipulation, publishing on multiple online channels, the changing faces of photography equipment and software, in addition to setting up the composition of a shoot and lighting techniques. In a few hours, photographers of all levels will have the knowledge to navigate the online world with confidence!

The event’s organizers have extended a special offer to Social Photo Talk readers: attend the photo workshop (and the rest of the conference) for only $350, which is a $75 savings off of the usual price.

Register for the workshop on the WebVisions site using this link to receive the special discount.

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk is the largest social photography event around – last year over 32,000 photographers participated in over 900 photowalks around the world.
Worldwide Photo Walk LogoThe photo walk is a great opportunity to meet other photographers (both amateur and pro) in your area. During the couple hours of photography, you’ll meet new people, see how they shoot, and probably learn a thing or two. Walk leaders are encouraged to end the walk at some sort of social venue where participants can share their photos, talk about photography, and perhaps have a drink or such. Participants can enter their best photo into a contest with both local and worldwide prizes available.

It’s a lot of fun and a nice learning opportunity.

If you’re in the Vancouver (Washington) or Portland (Oregon) areas, I’d love to have you join me for the walk I’m leading in downtown Vancouver.

Social Photo Talk is pleased to be a sponsor for this weekend’s 30 Hour Day, an encore to last December’s first-of-its-kind charity webcast. Hosts Cami Kaos and Rick Turoczy tie together 30 continuous hours of programming being broadcast live from Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square (during the day and evenings) and a secret undisclosed overnight studio. Looking at the schedule for the event I see they’ve got a bunch of great music, comedy, and variety acts lined up… it should be a nice set of entertainment.

30 Hour Day buttonsFunds raised during the event are being donated to three charities: p:ear (a mentoring program that assists homeless youth), the Red Cross, and the Oregon Food Bank (yes, it’s true… people aren’t just hungry during Christmastime). Tune in from 4pm (Pacific time) Friday through 10pm on Saturday, check out the entertainment, and perhaps donate a few dollars towards some organizations that do good work.

If you’re curious to follow the event via photos, photographers Aaron Hockley, Igal Koshevoy, and Kate Borst will be posting pictures to the 30 Hour Day Flickr group as it happens.
